Hi Everyone!
We've been slacking on our blog posts, but for good reason. We're deep into the 2013 season and have been busy winning! We currently sit at 7-6 overall, 4-2 in GNAC conference play, with a great opportunity in front of us to go 7-2 in the conference.
Check out some of our post game write-ups and box scores on our website, and be sure to like us on Facebook if you haven't already!
We're lucky enough to have a fan and photographer in freshman Tayllar Righini's grandfather. Here's a sampling of some of the wonderful pictures from a variety of games.

Happy 2013! Meet the Captains
Happy New Year! Yesterday marked the first official day of classes for EC Laxers and we are only 19 days away from hitting the ground running in the 2013 season! This is the time where champions are made, in the long, cold hours of preseason, the time we look back on in April and realize it was all worth it.
To get us and you even more revved up about our hunt for the GNAC trophy, here's an introduction to our 2013 captains and what they're expecting of the team this season. Here's a little bit of excitement the three of them share:
We are all looking forward to hitting the ground running. We don’t think we have ever had a team this excited to get the season going! The entire team has been training in preparation for an awesome season. Everyone is ready to start practicing. We have a lot of new players who are eager to make an impact on the team. Everyone had such a positive energy- which is a great start to a new season!
-Krystie, Chelsea and Sophia
Senior Attacker Sophia Mitropoulos (Lebanon, ME/Noble)
1. What's your major/minor at Emerson?
Marketing/ Business
2. What's your favorite thing about going to school in Boston?
Boston is such a small city. I love being able to walk to my friends' apartments, take the T to Bruins games, take the train to Pats games... We're connected to so many things and we're so lucky to be in a location like Boston.
3. What kind of
career do you anticipate pursuing after you graduate?
I’ll be working at an
advertising agency in Boston. I love going to work, love the people I work with,
feel at home there AND my agency is a street away from Rotch so I can make it
to every home game after I graduate. What more could a girl ask for?!
4. Name your
three favorite places in the world and why.
Lebanon, Maine – I’ve
done a lot of traveling and can’t think of a better place to be than sitting in
the living room, in the house I grew up in, chatting with my parents and
siblings.
On a lake – literally
any lake in the world where I can go fishing and swimming.
Anywhere in Italy –
for too many reasons.
5. What kinds
of music do you listen to: doing school work? workout our pre-game? On
the T?
Country, Country,
Country. Luke, Jason, Kenny, Tim, Jake, Kip… Need I go on? Okay, I sway from it
every now and then, but I could be in the worst mood, listen to a good ole’ Luke
Bryan song and suddenly; I’m the happiest person in the world.
6. Favorite TV
shows?
Duck Dynasty –
Rednecks are the most entertaining bunch of nuts out there.
The Office – I could
spend an entire day wasting away with John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer.
Sons of Anarchy –
because we all have our inner bad-ass.
7. Favorite
books?
The Outliers, The Tipping
Point, Pride and Prejudice, and who could forget:
the Twilight Series.
8. If you
weren't a lacrosse player, what would be your favorite hobby/pass time?
Definitely playing
guitar and pretending to be the next Miranda Lambert.
9. What's your best
lacrosse memory?
So many, how do I
choose? One of my favorite memories was realizing I could play lacrosse in
college. Being able to hold onto anything
you love for four more years is always a blessing.
10. Name the number
one thing you're looking forward to for the 2013 season:
We’re going to win the GNAC, so I’m looking
forward to that… I’m also looking forward to being carried on the shoulders of
my teammates around the field.. Okay, maybe just the winning part will suffice.
Junior Midfielder Chelsea Phillips (Waterford, CT/St. Bernard School)
1. What's your major/minor at Emerson?
Marketing Communications/Health
Communications
2. What's your favorite thing about being in
Boston?
I love how there is always something to do and so many
restaurants.
3. What
kind of career do you anticipate pursuing after you graduate?
I see myself going to graduate school and then pursuing a
career in health marketing or sports marketing.
4. Name
your three favorite places in the world and why.
Hawaii
- I went there for a lacrosse camp in high school and it is so beautiful. There is so much to do there - I
wish I could have stayed longer, I definitely
plan on going back someday.
New
York City - I love being in the city because everything you could ever imagine is there. The energy and
environment are unlike anywhere else,
it’s exciting being in the middle of such a vibrant place.
Anywhere my friends and family are because I have fun and enjoy my time with them no matter where we are.
5. What kinds of music do you listen to: doing
school work? workout our pre-game? On the T?
I can’t listen to music while doing school work, I get
distracted very easily. Pre-game I listen to a lot of Eminem, and any Hip-Hop
that pumps me up. On the T I shuffle all the songs on my iPod, but it depends
on my mood. Taylor Swift, Vanessa Carlton, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Drake, Chili
Peppers, and Third Eye Blind are some of my favorites...I like all different
types of music.
6. Favorite
TV shows?
Breaking Bad, House, Pretty Little Liars, Shark Tank
7. Favorite books?
I read mostly political books because politics is a big
passion of mine.
8. If you weren't a lacrosse player, what would be
your favorite hobby/pass time?
My favorite hobby besides lacrosse is Martial Arts. I have
traine in Karate and Tae Kwon Do since I was three years old, but had to put
it on hold because of lacrosse. I hope to start training and eventually compete
in Mixed Martial Arts sometime in the near future.
9. What's
your best lacrosse memory?
Having an undefeated season and making it to state finals
my junior year of high school is my best lacrosse memory.

Croatia - One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
5. What kind of music do you listen to: doing school work? workout or pre-game? on the T?

The Amazing Adventures of Krystie and Mack!
We hope everyone's weekend was enjoyable and fall-like. The weather was mild for Boston Octobers, but no complaining here. This week's post marks the introduction of a little log being kept by two of our world-traveling juniors, attacker Mackenzie Johnson and captain and defender Krystie Zoch. We'll let them do most of the talking here - enjoy!
Hallo (ß that’s hello in
Dutch), everyone!!! As most of you already know, Mackenzie and I are spending
our fall semester in Well, The Netherlands. We get to live in a beautiful
castle and travel every weekend. We have been meeting a ton of new people and
visiting a ton of different places! We are living it large over here in the
Netherlands. There are even two moats!
To say the least, we feel like princesses. The castle is in a small town called
Well. And when we say small, we mean small. But once our travel weekends end,
coming back to a small town is a nice break. We basically have classes Monday
through Thursdays and then you have Friday (sometimes Thursdays if you get out
early enough) through Sunday to travel anywhere you’d like. Even though we have
only been here for about three weeks, we are already in love with everything!
On our first travel weekend, Emerson
brought the program to Amsterdam. The city was absolutely beautiful! There are
canals and BIKES everywhere. Beware when/if you go to Amsterdam….. the bikers
will kill you- we repeat- will kill you. They don’t stop for anybody. The first
week we were in The Netherlands we were explained that Dutch people cherish
bikes more than they cherish God.
The
next weekend, Mackenzie and I spent a romantic get-away/our honeymoon together
in Barcelona, Spain. Of course, with our luck, it rained the entire weekend.
But you guys know us; we made the most of it. The beaches were lovely
(regardless of the lack of sun), and the nightlife is so much fun! They have
the most interesting clubs and bars! We went to this one bar where the prices
of the drinks follow the stock market. We had a blast!
Last
weekend, we spent about three days in Edinburgh, Scotland. The city contains a lot
of history and a lot of haunted myths. The first day we toured Edinburgh and
went to the National Museum. We also ate lunch in the same café that J.K
Rowling wrote Harry Potter! The café was called The Elephant House. It was so
adorable and had the best baked potatoes ever. The second day was
more adventurous. A group of us hiked up to Arthur’s Seat (they say it’s a
hill…. don’t fall for it). It was a rough two hour hike in boots, jeans, and
sweaters, but we survived. The hill/mountain looked over the ocean and the
entire city of Edinburgh. The hike was well worth it, the view was the most
beautiful thing we have ever seen.
This upcoming weekend, we are headed to Poland!
Wish us luck, and we’ll be blogging again soon! Miss you allll xox

Fall Play Day Re-Cap and Boston Making Strides Walk
Hi Everyone!
Emerson Lacrosse was everywhere this weekend. We started the weekend volunteering for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Boston. The walk was held on Sunday October, 14th, but since we were going to be in Fitchburg for our play day, we put our efforts towards prep work on Saturday. The team spent the afternoon putting together snack boxes for all of the walkers at the Charles River Esplanade. We'll have some pictures soon, but you can check out more about the event held nationwide here.
This past Sunday's play-day at Fitchburg State was a HUGE success for EC Lax. The team started off strong and finished the day 4-0! Our offense clicked on some awesome connections while the defense was a strong unit all day, anchored by a great performance in the net by VK the GK! All in all it left us excited and energized about what's to come. February is less than four months away!
A big thank you to the parents who were able to make it out to Fitchburg and to Emily Saeger, our team photographer!

New Assistant Coach: Amanda Burns
As of tomorrow at 9AM, we will be through our first official week of Fall Ball! Early morning practices and late night lifting sessions are all part of what makes a championship team, and the Lions are out to prove it!
As promised, we are happy to introduce our new assistant coach, Amanda Burns. Amanda is a 2012 graduate of Fitchburg State, where she was a three time All Conference Attacker/Midfielder and holds the All-Time Scoring record for the Falcons. She graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science and will work with the Attack this season. Get to know a little bit more about Amanda below:
What are you most excited for in joining the EC W. Lax team?
I am most excited for simply getting started. I can’t wait to get practices going and share my knowledge of lacrosse with the team. I have played for a number of teams and coaches over 10 years, but I am excited to actually be a coach. I think I can teach the ladies of the Emerson Women’s Lacrosse team a large number of plays and skills, and prepare them for higher competition.
What's your best lacrosse memory?
My most favorite lacrosse memory was in my junior year at Fitchburg State University. That year, we made the playoffs but lost to a team by only one goal. Even though we lost, we had a reason to celebrate. That team was said to win by ten points, but we had them stressing out until the last second. That loss felt like a win for us, I have never seen the team happier than that. That year, I also had the best year of lacrosse in my career and was noticed in a national magazine, The New England Lacrosse Journal.
What is your degree from Fitchburg in?
At Fitchburg State University, I majored in Exercise and Sport Science. I learned to integrate anatomy, physiology, physics, psychology and the learning theory to describe and explain the responses and adaptations to exercise and training. I can apply that knowledge to enhance physical potential for health, sport, and in rehabilitation. I chose to follow the fitness management track which required me to take classes in business administration which helped me decide that coaching was something I really wanted to get into.
What kinds of hobbies or activities do you do in your free time?
In my free time I am very into social networking. I also enjoy reading and listening to music. In the summer I am always lounging around either by the pool or at the beach with a good book, constantly running, exercising, and I absolutely love barbequing. This time a year I get fall fever. I am always looking for friends to go apple picking, pumpkin picking, and costume shopping. During the winter I love to go snowboarding. If I am not home or working, you can find me on the mountain.
What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to all different types of music, but mostly mainstream pop, rock, R&B and a little bit of country. In the car, you would find me listening to Kiss 108, Jam’n, or Mix. I am always on iTunes looking for new music and burning new CDs to listen to in the car. No matter where I am I always have my iPod on me.
What are your favorite things about Boston?
Growing up in the suburbs, I have always loved the city of Boston. My friends and I would hop on the T whenever we had free time and walk around the city. We would see shows, concerts, go to the Aquarium, restaurants, and always hit the main shopping areas like Faneuil Hall. Boston Common was always one of my favorite places to go, which makes working for Emerson College a perfect location for me. On weekends you would always find my friends and I either in the North End or at the Seaport.
