New Assistant Coach: Amanda Burns

As of tomorrow at 9AM, we will be through our first official week of Fall Ball!  Early morning practices and late night lifting sessions are all part of what makes a championship team, and the Lions are out to prove it!

As promised, we are happy to introduce our new assistant coach, Amanda Burns. Amanda is a 2012 graduate of Fitchburg State, where she was a three time All Conference Attacker/Midfielder and holds the All-Time Scoring record for the Falcons. She graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science and will work with the Attack this season.  Get to know a little bit more about Amanda below:

What are you most excited for in joining the EC W. Lax team?
I am most excited for simply getting started. I can’t wait to get practices going and share my knowledge of lacrosse with the team. I have played for a number of teams and coaches over 10 years, but I am excited to actually be a coach. I think I can teach the ladies of the Emerson Women’s Lacrosse team a large number of plays and skills, and prepare them for higher competition.

What's your best lacrosse memory?
My most favorite lacrosse memory was in my junior year at Fitchburg State University. That year, we made the playoffs but lost to a team by only one goal. Even though we lost, we had a reason to celebrate. That team was said to win by ten points, but we had them stressing out until the last second. That loss felt like a win for us, I have never seen the team happier than that. That year, I also had the best year of lacrosse in my career and was noticed in a national magazine, The New England Lacrosse Journal.

What is your degree from Fitchburg in?
At Fitchburg State University, I majored in Exercise and Sport Science. I learned to integrate anatomy, physiology, physics, psychology and the learning theory to describe and explain the responses and adaptations to exercise and training. I can apply that knowledge to enhance physical potential for health, sport, and in rehabilitation. I chose to follow the fitness management track which required me to take classes in business administration which helped me decide that coaching was something I really wanted to get into.

What kinds of hobbies or activities do you do in your free time?
In my free time I am very into social networking. I also enjoy reading and listening to music. In the summer I am always lounging around either by the pool or at the beach with a good book, constantly running, exercising, and I absolutely love barbequing. This time a year I get fall fever. I am always looking for friends to go apple picking, pumpkin picking, and costume shopping. During the winter I love to go snowboarding. If I am not home or working, you can find me on the mountain.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to all different types of music, but mostly mainstream pop, rock, R&B and a little bit of country. In the car, you would find me listening to Kiss 108, Jam’n, or Mix. I am always on iTunes looking for new music and burning new CDs to listen to in the car. No matter where I am I always have my iPod on me.

What are your favorite things about Boston?
Growing up in the suburbs, I have always loved the city of Boston. My friends and I would hop on the T whenever we had free time and walk around the city. We would see shows, concerts, go to the Aquarium, restaurants, and always hit the main shopping areas like Faneuil Hall. Boston Common was always one of my favorite places to go, which makes working for Emerson College a perfect location for me. On weekends you would always find my friends and I either in the North End or at the Seaport.

Fall 2013 Back in Action!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update on how things are going with EC Lax since the team has been back on campus.  We had our first team meeting this past Friday and we are ready to get down to the business of winning a GNAC Championship in 2013!  The training schedules are out and our first team lift is set for Wednesday.  We are looking to get after it in the weight room this fall!

Here's a quick pic snapped of some laxers as they anxiously awaited their  NCAA Compliance meeting.
Some of the team ready for a photo-op.

This week marks our first full official week of classes. Our team goal for the semester is to achieve a 3.5 team GPA - a lofty one but we are confident that with some hard work, the great minds that make up the Emerson Women's Lacrosse team can achieve anything!

We are proud of our four Emerson Soccer players and their great 3-0 start this season! Check out the splash our freshmen are making and how well Junior Captain Casey Jablonski is holding down the defense. Come out on September 15th to support them in their next home game against Albertus. 1PM at Rotch Field.

We also have a new member of our staff to introduce.  Be on the lookout for a post in the coming week!
