Community Service Event: Boston Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

As promised, here's a photo montage of EC Lax helping out on the Esplanade for Boston's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.  The walk was a great success and the team had a beautiful day for their efforts.  They even managed to have a little fun, too...

The Amazing Adventures of Krystie and Mack!

We hope everyone's weekend was enjoyable and fall-like. The weather was mild for Boston Octobers, but no complaining here. This week's post marks the introduction of a little log being kept by two of our world-traveling juniors, attacker Mackenzie Johnson and captain and defender Krystie Zoch. We'll let them do most of the talking here - enjoy!

Hallo (ß that’s hello in Dutch), everyone!!! As most of you already know, Mackenzie and I are spending our fall semester in Well, The Netherlands. We get to live in a beautiful castle and travel every weekend. We have been meeting a ton of new people and visiting a ton of different places! We are living it large over here in the Netherlands.  There are even two moats! To say the least, we feel like princesses. The castle is in a small town called Well. And when we say small, we mean small. But once our travel weekends end, coming back to a small town is a nice break. We basically have classes Monday through Thursdays and then you have Friday (sometimes Thursdays if you get out early enough) through Sunday to travel anywhere you’d like. Even though we have only been here for about three weeks, we are already in love with everything!

On our first travel weekend, Emerson brought the program to Amsterdam. The city was absolutely beautiful! There are canals and BIKES everywhere. Beware when/if you go to Amsterdam….. the bikers will kill you- we repeat- will kill you. They don’t stop for anybody. The first week we were in The Netherlands we were explained that Dutch people cherish bikes more than they cherish God.

The next weekend, Mackenzie and I spent a romantic get-away/our honeymoon together in Barcelona, Spain. Of course, with our luck, it rained the entire weekend. But you guys know us; we made the most of it. The beaches were lovely (regardless of the lack of sun), and the nightlife is so much fun! They have the most interesting clubs and bars! We went to this one bar where the prices of the drinks follow the stock market. We had a blast!

Last weekend, we spent about three days in Edinburgh, Scotland. The city contains a lot of history and a lot of haunted myths. The first day we toured Edinburgh and went to the National Museum. We also ate lunch in the same café that J.K Rowling wrote Harry Potter! The café was called The Elephant House. It was so adorable and had the best baked potatoes ever. The second day was more adventurous. A group of us hiked up to Arthur’s Seat (they say it’s a hill…. don’t fall for it). It was a rough two hour hike in boots, jeans, and sweaters, but we survived. The hill/mountain looked over the ocean and the entire city of Edinburgh. The hike was well worth it, the view was the most beautiful thing we have ever seen.

This upcoming weekend, we are headed to Poland!
Wish us luck, and we’ll be blogging again soon! Miss you allll xox

Fall Play Day Re-Cap and Boston Making Strides Walk

Hi Everyone!

Emerson Lacrosse was everywhere this weekend.  We started the weekend volunteering for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Boston.  The walk was held on Sunday October, 14th, but since we were going to be in Fitchburg for our play day, we put our efforts towards prep work on Saturday.  The team spent the afternoon putting together snack boxes for all of the walkers at the Charles River Esplanade.  We'll have some pictures soon, but you can check out more about the event held nationwide here.

This past Sunday's play-day at Fitchburg State was a HUGE success for EC Lax.  The team started off strong and finished the day 4-0!  Our offense clicked on some awesome connections while the defense was a strong unit all day, anchored by a great performance in the net by VK the GK! All in all it left us excited and energized about what's to come.  February is less than four months away!

A big thank you to the parents who were able to make it out to Fitchburg and to Emily Saeger, our team photographer!

New Assistant Coach: Amanda Burns

As of tomorrow at 9AM, we will be through our first official week of Fall Ball!  Early morning practices and late night lifting sessions are all part of what makes a championship team, and the Lions are out to prove it!

As promised, we are happy to introduce our new assistant coach, Amanda Burns. Amanda is a 2012 graduate of Fitchburg State, where she was a three time All Conference Attacker/Midfielder and holds the All-Time Scoring record for the Falcons. She graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science and will work with the Attack this season.  Get to know a little bit more about Amanda below:

What are you most excited for in joining the EC W. Lax team?
I am most excited for simply getting started. I can’t wait to get practices going and share my knowledge of lacrosse with the team. I have played for a number of teams and coaches over 10 years, but I am excited to actually be a coach. I think I can teach the ladies of the Emerson Women’s Lacrosse team a large number of plays and skills, and prepare them for higher competition.

What's your best lacrosse memory?
My most favorite lacrosse memory was in my junior year at Fitchburg State University. That year, we made the playoffs but lost to a team by only one goal. Even though we lost, we had a reason to celebrate. That team was said to win by ten points, but we had them stressing out until the last second. That loss felt like a win for us, I have never seen the team happier than that. That year, I also had the best year of lacrosse in my career and was noticed in a national magazine, The New England Lacrosse Journal.

Feature on Amanda in the New England Lacrosse Journal, 2011
What is your degree from Fitchburg in?
At Fitchburg State University, I majored in Exercise and Sport Science. I learned to integrate anatomy, physiology, physics, psychology and the learning theory to describe and explain the responses and adaptations to exercise and training. I can apply that knowledge to enhance physical potential for health, sport, and in rehabilitation. I chose to follow the fitness management track which required me to take classes in business administration which helped me decide that coaching was something I really wanted to get into.

What kinds of hobbies or activities do you do in your free time?
In my free time I am very into social networking. I also enjoy reading and listening to music. In the summer I am always lounging around either by the pool or at the beach with a good book, constantly running, exercising, and I absolutely love barbequing. This time a year I get fall fever. I am always looking for friends to go apple picking, pumpkin picking, and costume shopping. During the winter I love to go snowboarding. If I am not home or working, you can find me on the mountain.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to all different types of music, but mostly mainstream pop, rock, R&B and a little bit of country. In the car, you would find me listening to Kiss 108, Jam’n, or Mix. I am always on iTunes looking for new music and burning new CDs to listen to in the car. No matter where I am I always have my iPod on me.

What are your favorite things about Boston?
Growing up in the suburbs, I have always loved the city of Boston. My friends and I would hop on the T whenever we had free time and walk around the city. We would see shows, concerts, go to the Aquarium, restaurants, and always hit the main shopping areas like Faneuil Hall. Boston Common was always one of my favorite places to go, which makes working for Emerson College a perfect location for me. On weekends you would always find my friends and I either in the North End or at the Seaport.

Fall 2013 Back in Action!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update on how things are going with EC Lax since the team has been back on campus.  We had our first team meeting this past Friday and we are ready to get down to the business of winning a GNAC Championship in 2013!  The training schedules are out and our first team lift is set for Wednesday.  We are looking to get after it in the weight room this fall!

Here's a quick pic snapped of some laxers as they anxiously awaited their  NCAA Compliance meeting.
Some of the team ready for a photo-op.

This week marks our first full official week of classes. Our team goal for the semester is to achieve a 3.5 team GPA - a lofty one but we are confident that with some hard work, the great minds that make up the Emerson Women's Lacrosse team can achieve anything!

We are proud of our four Emerson Soccer players and their great 3-0 start this season! Check out the splash our freshmen are making and how well Junior Captain Casey Jablonski is holding down the defense. Come out on September 15th to support them in their next home game against Albertus. 1PM at Rotch Field.

We also have a new member of our staff to introduce.  Be on the lookout for a post in the coming week!

Alex Corrado's Summer in Mass

The countdown is on! 10 more days until Orientation and Move-In Day begin! I think I'm almost ready for Boylston Street to get much busier.  Not much going on here; we are in the quiet before the storm phase.  The Fall Ball schedule is just about finalized and should be ready in the next couple of days.  The journey to the 2013 season begins in just a few short weeks. Until then, relax and soak up these last days of August - we have a lot of work ahead of us!

This week we're hearing about the (summer) life and times of Junior Attacker Alex Corrado.  She's sold designer shoes, hit the beach, and become a master guacamole chef.  All without leaving the state!

What's your favorite summer hobby/activity while you're home in Chestnut Hill?
Alex: My favorite hobby while I'm at home is probably making guacamole. Not only is it my favorite snack but I've gotten pretty darn good at making it. I also enjoy going for runs around the Boston College reservoir while simultaneously trying to sneak peaks of the BC male athletes' preseason practices as I run past the practice fields.
Yum!

Describe a typical day at work.
Alex: A typical day at work begins with me arriving through the employee entrance of Nordstrom looking fabulous, as always. I then descend the escalator and head over to the Men's Shoe department. I stash my phone and wallet in the stock room and then go say whats up to my fellow Men's Shoes salesmen. Sometimes, I'll have a stock assignment where I have to straighten sections of shoes but mostly we just mess around on the sales floor until customers start arriving. Then it is my job to wait on people and provide "exceptional customer service" while trying to get them into the best (and hopefully most expensive ;) ) option for what they're looking for. I get paid on commission so its all about the $$$$. One of the highlights of my summer was selling the most expensive shoe on our floor to a customer. It was a gorgeous Prada wingtip that costs $720. The best part of my job (besides the discount of course) is that my brother Nick works in the Women's Shoe department right next to me. This summer we've gotten to carpool together on the weekends and we always have fun messing with each other and passing off husband and wife customers to each other.

Alex and her bro
Have you traveled at all this summer? Where to?
Alex: I didn't get to leave the state at all this summer, except to go to Connecticut for a days with my mom to check out one of her projects but I did make it down to Cape Cod quite a few times.

Beach time
You've been in and around Boston a lot this summer. Any changes about the city compared to when colleges are in session?
Alex: There are definitely a lot more tourists than during the school year and more humidity but other than that I didn't notice too many changes.

Did you pay much attention to the Olympics and Massachusetts' own Aly Raisman? What what was your favorite Olympic event/events?
Alex: I watched the Olympics religiously when it was on. I was completely consumed by it! Aly Raisman actually lives in the next town over from me so I was really excited when I heard about her. Actually, her uncle came to Nordstrom and bought four or five pairs of shoes from my friend a couple days before the Olympics started and was raving about Aly and how excited he was. I can't pick just one event so I'll say all my favorites: beach volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, sprinting and freestyle wrestling.

Have you gotten the chance to hang out with any other EC Laxers this summer?
Alex: Yes!! Many of the times I went down to the Cape I stayed with Maggie! I also had lunch with Emily early on in the summer and I had dinner with Brittany a couple weeks ago. And of course, Megan and I have had a few visits as well. But I miss everyone dearly and can't wait to see them!!!

Where are you living this year and with who?
Alex: This year I'm living on campus in the Colonial with three of my really good friends Alicia, Brittany and Shannon. Getting the four of us together in a suite was quite the accomplishment.

What are you most looking forward to about Junior year?
Alex: I'm really looking forward to two of my classes that I'm taking this year (Social Media Marketing and Political Thought), getting to see all of my friends again (ESPECIALLY THE TEAM) and just being back in Boston <3.

Kanika Misra begins her study abroad in New Zealand

Hello Everyone!

August is officially upon us.  Camp and tournament season is over and I have just returned from a family trip to Alaska.  The land out there is incredible, so much so that it's hard to remember that it's of the same country as the lower 48 states.  We spent time in Denali, saw Mount McKinley, Haines, Juneau and Ketchikan.  My favorite part was meeting both native Alaskans and transplants to the state and learning how different their lives are from anything I've been accustomed to.  Bears, sea planes, moose and ice-climbing is all part of a lot of people's everyday routine.  I was stunned to learn that Juneau, the state capital, is only accessible by air and sea; there are no roads leading in or out. I highly recommend the trip if anyone is looking for a unique vacation.

Casey and I are not the only travelers among the EC Lax team.  Junior Attacker Kanika Misra is settling in in New Zealand and has given us some wonderful insight into her trip thus far:

Give us a play-by-play of your travel from the U.S. To New Zealand, from leaving home in Potsdam to settling in Auckland.
Kanika: So I left Potsdam on June 29th to head out to LA for a few days and hang with Marlee before the long journey to New Zealand. I had so much fun with Marlee - met her wonderful friends and family, went to the beach, shopped around, had sushi (of course), got some Taco Tuesday, and so much more. We definitely covered all the bases during my short visit there. My flight to Auckland was on the night of July 4th and it was about 13 hours which sounds terrible, but I actually was able to sleep through most of it. Since the time difference is 16 hours (EST), it was really strange because I technically never had July 5th in my life because I landed at 6am on July 6th, Auckland time. After landing, I met the rest of the Arcadia University program and they took us to a hotel so we could shower and call home but we weren't allowed to sleep until 8pm in order to try and beat jet-lag. The first three days here were so packed with activities that I can't explain it all but during that time I went to Hobbiton (yes, Lord of the Rings!) and Rotorua, went zorbing (YouTube it!), experienced the culture of the Maoris (the native people of New Zealand), walked through volcanic parks, saw some Kiwi birds, moved into my flat in Auckland, and so much more! It really was incredible - everything about this country is pretty incredible, to be honest. If you want the real play-by-play of that weekend though, check out my travel blog.

Has school started yet? What classes are you taking?
Kanika: School started last week, so I just finished my second week of classes yesterday. It is almost impossible to get classes transferred over for my major so all the classes I am taking are just counting as elective credits for me. I was still interested in taking marketing classes while I was here though, even if they aren't counting towards anything really so I'm taking 'International Business' and 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship'. I'm also taking two random classes for fun called 'Drugs and Society' and 'Exercise&Fitness: Myths and Reality'. My 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship' class is definitely going to be the most difficult because it's the highest level class I'm taking, but it'll be really cool to learn about the way things work here. I also fully intend on coming back here one day and opening some businesses and making baaaank because so far, we've noticed that New Zealand is about 10 years behind. School is really different here though - there is almost no emphasis on classwork or even attendance, there are few essays and most of the learning is self-taught, but the biggest and scariest thing is that finals at the University of Auckland are worth 50%+ of your grade. In one of my classes, my final is a cumulative test at the end of the semester and it is worth 65% of my grade...I'm a little nervous, to say the least.
Hiking

Are your classmates from all over? Where?
Kanika: Yes, my classmates are very international for sure. There are a lot of Asians because of our proximity to the continent, but there are a good amount of people from literally all over. It seems like most students live at home while at university in New Zealand as opposed to the US where we all tend to move out and change cities. I live in a university-owned apartment complex, so I've met tons of other internationals just by living here. I've made friends from Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Norway, and France just to name a few. It's really nice to be able to meet so many different people from such incredibly different places.

Have you had a chance to get to know any New Zealanders? Give us a little info on the culture there.
Kanika: I've met New Zealanders mostly through class or mingling in town. They say that finding and befriending a Kiwi (the name for a native New Zealander) is a little difficult and rare, but it's easier after joining some clubs and getting involved in various things. The New Zealand culture is pretty much based around the Maori culture which is really cool. One of the first days we were here, our program brought us to the Tamaki Maori Village which is basically a re-creation of an old Maori village. There was just so much information thrown at us that it's hard to really summarize it, but http://www.maoriculture.co.nz/maoriculture gives a lot of information if you're interested! I think one of the coolest things we were introduced to was the "haka" which is the traditional ancestral war dance of the Maori people. It is a little scary and super intense, but pretty amazing to watch.

Tamaki Maori Village
How is lax fitting into your time abroad?
Kanika: I've actually gotten very, very involved with the lacrosse community here in New Zealand. Because it's still in its beginning stages, there is a lot of basic foundation work that is going on all over the country. As opposed to the US where thousands and thousands of athletes play lacrosse, the numbers here are in the hundreds. (Though you have to remember that we have over 300,000,000 more people in the United States than they have in New Zealand.) That said, building an interest in the sport is the biggest obstacle...especially when most people don't even know what lacrosse is. I've met a lot of people here that are very involved and I've agreed to help out with anything they need help with - coaching, reffing, etc. Last week I played in a "social lacrosse" league which consists mostly of people who have never touched a stick before. It was complete chaos to be honest, but it's a learning experience for them so it's all good. Besides that, I've been very lucky to get the opportunity to work with the National Women's Lacrosse team here. I spent a few days with them this past week and they really are a great group of girls - just as dysfunctional as we all are! At this point, I'm helping assistant coach them which is really incredible for me...I was surprised at how much control the coach gave me, she even handed over the whistle a few times! A lot of the concepts (pertaining to lacrosse/sports in general) that have become second-nature to us since we grew up with them are relatively new and kind of foreign to many of them - even some phenomenal players on the national team. My background in coaching and playing other sports has definitely helped me and honestly all the time I spent on the sideline with my ACL did so much for my perspective, in a way I am grateful. They're quickly filling up my calender with various events over the next few months, so I'm really excited to see what's in store for me!
National Team Lacrosse Camp
What is your favorite place you have been so far and where are you planning to travel while you're there?
Kanika: I'm not really sure if I'll be able to choose favorite places during my time here - everything is so incredible and different in its own way. But, since I've only been here for about three weeks now and go to school during the week, I've only traveled out of the city once besides orientation weekend. That one trip was to Piha which is about an hour west of Auckland, best known for its beautiful beaches. We went on a short little hike before heading to the beach which was also incredibly beautiful. Again, my blog will give you a lot more depth and insight to that trip...but most importantly, it will give you pictures that don't even come close to doing the scenery justice, but a taste is better than nothing. As for future travel plans, I really want to try and go as many places as possible while I'm here. Though Australia, Fiji, and Tasmania would be incredible, I think I'll save those for another trip some years down the road and try to get the most out of New Zealand. Right now, I'm having a lot of fun starting to plan out my two week mid-semester break where we are planning on road-tripping around the South Island which I am inexplicably excited about. Dolphins, wine-tasting, long hikes, bungee jumping, and so much more are in my future!

Piha Beach
Food in Auckland vs. food in Boston. Go.
Kanika: Honestly, there aren't that many foods that are native to the area that I've discovered. Besides their absolute love for chips (french fries), I am convinced that New Zealanders don't eat much else than Subway, sushi, kebabs, and meat pies. Meat pies are really common here - especially mince meat made out of sheep since there are more sheep than people in this country. They also obviously have a lot of kiwifruit and these different ones called golden kiwifruit that are kind of sweeter and hard to describe but people either love them or hate them...I love them. They also have a special sweet potato here called kumara which is really good, and a meringue-like dessert called pavlova which is delicious. You all know my obsession with sushi, so since it's available every 10 feet...you could say I'm pretty happy in Auckland.

Anything else you'd like to share with EC Laxers and fans?
Kanika: I think I've shared more than enough...

If you want to keep following Kanika in her travels through November, check out her blog for more updates and pictures!

Casey Jablonski's Summer in London

Hi everyone! Camp and tournament season is in full swing. It's hard to believe July is almost coming to an end, but this only means we're that much closer to EC Laxers getting back to Boston! My apologies for having gone on a bit of a hiatus from the blog, but we are up and running again.  And what better way to get back on track than with the excitement of Junior defender Casey Jablonski's travels abroad.  Casey is studying in London until July 28th - she'll get to see the Opening Ceremonies from London's Hyde Park via the giant screen showing the celebrations! Read on for some of the awesome experiences she's already had:

Where are you studying in London and through what program?
Casey:
I am studying at City University.  It is a Program called London Now and it's through Arcadia University (the same college Kanika is studying in New Zealand through) but it's affiliated and advertised through Emerson, which is how I found out about it.

What are you studying?
Casey:
I'm taking two classes in a six week term.  I'm taking a class called Filming the City.  It is interesting to study film through a different culture, however the course is not nearly as advanced as Emerson courses.  The other class I'm taking is called Course on the London Olympics.  As I'm sure everyone knows, the Olympics are about to begin right here in London.  In this class we learn everything from how the city of London won the bid to the Olympics right up to the excitement and problems still happening today.  We also got to go to Olympic Park and see the Olympic Stadium, which is named Queen Elizabeth II.  They name everything after her here.  I guess she's pretty cool, she has been on the throne for 60 years.

Where are you living?
Casey:
I am living in a student living facility (basically a dorm room, but we have our own bathrooms) called Nido.  It is literally right down the street from King's Cross Station, so I've been keeping my eyes peeled for Harry, Ron and Hermione.  Sadly, there have been no sightings yet.

Are there many other Emerson students in your program? Did you know anyone before you went over there?
Casey:
There are around 40 students total in my program.  There are about 12-15 people from Emerson.  I knew three people before coming here, one of my old roommates, one of Kanika's old roommates, and one of Naomi's old roommates.

What's been the most memorable part of the experience?
Casey:
This is hard.  I don't think I can pick just one so I'll list a few:
1. Arriving during the Queen's Jubilee.  I had no idea what this was of course, but I quickly learned it was a HUGE deal celebrating that Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 60 years.  This is only the second time this has ever happened.
2. Being here during the Euro Cup.  People LOVE soccer here, so just experiencing the atmosphere was awesome.
3.  Being here during Wimbledon.  Just as cool to see how people react.
4.  Of course seeing the whole hype leading up to the Olympics.
5. Seeing London from inside Tower Bridge! I have a new fascination with bridges.

Have you gotten to do any traveling outside of classes?
Casey:
Yes! I went to Dublin! We were there for four days so we also did a day tour of the Irish coast/countryside.  It literally was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.  No picture will do it justice, but I'll send one anyway.  This weekend I'm heading to Brussels to eat chocolate, and eat waffles and cake!  And then next weekend we are going to Milan!

What's your favorite thing about London?
Casey:
The weather! Just kidding, it's always raining.  I think my favorite thing about it is there is ALWAYS something going on or something to do (and so many events are free!).  For example, last week I was able to see Imogen Heap perform live for free! She's amazing! If you don't know her, look her up, because you should!

What do you miss most about home and Boston/Emerson?
Casey:
I miss not having to worry about money as much.  It's so hard and expensive here with the exchange rate.  1 pound=1.67 dollars! It's outrageous and I have to be very careful with my money.  I also miss good food.  Contrary to what you might think, Londoners eat weird/gross food.

Maggie Penza's Beachside Summer

Summer is finally here! It's reaching a steamy 95 degrees today in Boston, as it is seems to be in most of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, but I'm not complaining. It's nice to have some heat after the rainy, cloudy mess we've been having. As long as it only stays for a few days...luckily this weekend it's supposed to drop back down to a lovely 80 or so, just in time for more recruiting!

I had the pleasure of hearing from ever entertaining Junior Maggie Penza this week.  Life seems pretty rough for her out on the Cape...

You are living the dream this summer on the Cape. Give us an idea of what your typical day is like:
Maggie: My typical day starts with some kind of exercise or workout followed by a trip to the beach so that I can maintain the summer glow that my friends down here have come to expect from me. After the beach, I come home to feast on my specialty, peanut butter and jelly with bananas, before I get ready for work. Then, I head to my restaurant to waitress and charm the hearts and minds of my customers. Finally, if my shift ends early, I go back to the beach to watch the sunset. It's a tough life, but someone has to do it.

What is your restaurant like and how are you enjoying working there?
Maggie:
I work at Oliver's Restaurant in Yarmouthport during the Summer. It's a family restaurant that has everything from burritos to broiled seafood platters. On the weekends we have bands come in to play for those of our customers that can stay awake past 10 pm as well as karaoke, which I have yet to try my hand at despite constant requests from my co-workers who have heard of my legendary vocal stylings. I almost always have fun at work, and I get some excellent stories out of it so I can't complain.

Any funny/strange waitressing encounters yet?
Maggie:
Nothing too crazy has happened yet because it is still early, but I did convince some people the other night that I was a magician. I didn't have to do any tricks, they were just really gullible.

Who are you living with?
Maggie:
I live with my friend Kate in her grandmother's Cape house free of charge all summer. We occasionally get a visit from her family, but for the most part we're just living the dream.

What kind of fun summer activities/hobbies do you have when you're not working?
Maggie:
Most of my free time is spent at the beach, but there are a lot of day trips that we have planned as well for the coming months. We are going to spend a day or two in Provincetown, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. We also plan to go kayaking, sailing (as soon as we can make friends with someone that has a boat), and whale watching because whales are cool. As far as hobbies go, I have been teaching myself how to cook so that we do not die of starvation. So far my best dish is lemon pepper chicken with broccoli.. I'm thinking of signing up for Top Chef next season.

Any plans to visit some other EC Laxers or are any of them coming out to visit you?
Maggie:
Alex Corrado comes down for a couple of days every couple of weeks to have mini vacations, but I have yet to see anyone else so far. I am positively certain that will not be the case for long, though.

Have you been keeping up with your notorious tweets out there?
Maggie:
Of course! It's hard to keep up with the constant demand from my fans, but I have to give the people what they want. I don't tweet as frequently because there is not a lot of service at the beach, but I like to think that it's the quality rather than the quantity that counts.

What do you miss most about Boston and what are you most looking forward to when you get back?
Maggie:
I realized the other day that I really miss Boloco, so that is definitely up there on the list. Along with that I also miss being able to walk everywhere. I'm a pretty terrible driver so I can't wait to get back to only needing my legs and the T system to get around.

Camp Counselor Marissa Nobile

Finally some nice weather in Boston this weekend! I enjoyed my little cousin's club lax all-star game  and some pool time in the suburbs.   This coming weekend kicks off a long trail of recruiting at the Champions Cup in Downingtown, PA.  It will be nice to see some coaching friends and hopefully Junior Kanika Misra who is working for DeBeer this summer.

This week's check-in is with sophomomore defender and Women's Basketball player Marissa Nobile who has a very full and fun summer ahead!

Where will you be spending most of your summer?
Marissa: Most of my summer will be spent at Camp Hazen YMCA in Chester, CT where I will be working as an overnight camp counselor and lifeguard/water sports instructor. Other than that I will be at the beach and in Boston as much as possible!

Can you give a little background on the camp and your connection to it?
Marissa: The camp I work at is about 35 minutes away from my house and I will be living there in a cabin with the campers I am in charge of. This is my first summer working there but my 10th summer overall. I started going to this camp when I was younger and decided it was where I wanted to work once I was old enough. You guys can check it out at camphazenymca.org

What are the perks of being a lifeguard? What are the not so great parts of it?
Marissa: The biggest perk of being a lifeguard is the TAN and being able to spend most of my summer on the water swimming and boating. The not so great parts are the one-piece tan lines, having to be at the beach even when it’s cold, and grumpy campers.

What are you most looking forward to this summer? Any travel plans?
Marissa: I am looking forward to spending a lot of time outdoors, on the water, cheering on the Celtics and with friends at concerts. I have already been back to Boston once, where I lived with Sophia for two weeks! I also spent a week in Virginia with my family, which was a lot of fun. Other than that I plan on taking a few day trips to Boston, Newport, etc.

What's your favorite summer activity when you're not working?
Marissa: When I am not working my favorite summer activities would have to be summer concerts, the Waterford Speedbowl, and bonfires (the one below is over 6 stories high). Both activities are really popular in my town and it’s a great way to stay connected with old friends while enjoying the summer atmosphere. Oh and of course sending videos to and visiting Macy Day!

Where/who are you living with when you get back to campus?
Marissa: When I get back to campus I have the pleasure of rooming with our very own Marlee! We will be in a double in a suite in colonial along with Naomi.

What was your favorite thing about your freshman year at Emerson? What was your least favorite?
Marissa: My favorite thing about freshman year was being given the opportunity to play two sports and making amazing friends along the way. I loved getting to know everyone in Athletics, including our amazing Athletic Trainers Miss Mandy, Steph, Laura, and the BU students. My least favorite part of the year was my knee issue throughout both seasons, which just wasn’t fun.

What do you miss most about Boston?
Marissa: I miss everything about Boston, especially my teammates.
