Happy 2013! Meet the Captains

Happy New Year! Yesterday marked the first official day of classes for EC Laxers and we are only 19 days away from hitting the ground running in the 2013 season! This is the time where champions are made, in the long, cold hours of preseason, the time we look back on in April and realize it was all worth it.

To get us and you even more revved up about our hunt for the GNAC trophy, here's an introduction to our 2013 captains and what they're expecting of the team this season. Here's a little bit of excitement the three of them share:

We are all looking forward to hitting the ground running. We don’t think we have ever had a team this excited to get the season going! The entire team has been training in preparation for an awesome season. Everyone is ready to start practicing. We have a lot of new players who are eager to make an impact on the team. Everyone had such a positive energy- which is a great start to a new season!

Senior Attacker Sophia Mitropoulos (Lebanon, ME/Noble)

1. What's your major/minor at Emerson?
 Marketing/ Business

2. What's your favorite thing about going to school in Boston?
Boston is such a small city. I love being able to walk to my friends' apartments, take the T to Bruins games, take the train to Pats games... We're connected to so many things and we're so lucky to be in a location like Boston.

3.  What kind of career do you anticipate pursuing after you graduate?
I’ll be working at an advertising agency in Boston. I love going to work, love the people I work with, feel at home there AND my agency is a street away from Rotch so I can make it to every home game after I graduate. What more could a girl ask for?!

4.  Name your three favorite places in the world and why.
Lebanon, Maine – I’ve done a lot of traveling and can’t think of a better place to be than sitting in the living room, in the house I grew up in, chatting with my parents and siblings.
On a lake – literally any lake in the world where I can go fishing and swimming.
Anywhere in Italy – for too many reasons.

5.   What kinds of music do you listen to: doing school work?  workout our pre-game? On the T?
Country, Country, Country. Luke, Jason, Kenny, Tim, Jake, Kip… Need I go on? Okay, I sway from it every now and then, but I could be in the worst mood, listen to a good ole’ Luke Bryan song and suddenly; I’m the happiest person in the world.

6.  Favorite TV shows?
Duck Dynasty – Rednecks are the most entertaining bunch of nuts out there.
The Office – I could spend an entire day wasting away with John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer.
Sons of Anarchy – because we all have our inner bad-ass.

7.  Favorite books?
The Outliers, The Tipping Point, Pride and Prejudice, and who could forget: the Twilight Series.

8.  If you weren't a lacrosse player, what would be your favorite hobby/pass time?
Definitely playing guitar and pretending to be the next Miranda Lambert.

9. What's your best lacrosse memory?
So many, how do I choose? One of my favorite memories was realizing I could play lacrosse in college. Being able to hold onto anything you love for four more years is always a blessing.

10. Name the number one thing you're looking forward to for the 2013 season:
We’re going to win the GNAC, so I’m looking forward to that… I’m also looking forward to being carried on the shoulders of my teammates around the field.. Okay, maybe just the winning part will suffice.

4. Name your three favorite places in the world and why.
Hawaii - I went there for a lacrosse camp in high school and it is so beautiful. There is so much to do there - I wish I could have stayed longer, I definitely plan on going back someday.
New York City - I love being in the city because everything you could ever imagine is there. The energy and environment are unlike anywhere else, it’s exciting being in the middle of such a vibrant place.
Anywhere my friends and family are because I have fun and enjoy my time with them no matter where we are.

5.  What kinds of music do you listen to: doing school work?  workout our pre-game? On the T?
I can’t listen to music while doing school work, I get distracted very easily. Pre-game I listen to a lot of Eminem, and any Hip-Hop that pumps me up. On the T I shuffle all the songs on my iPod, but it depends on my mood. Taylor Swift, Vanessa Carlton, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Drake, Chili Peppers, and Third Eye Blind are some of my favorites...I like all different types of music.

Breaking Bad, House, Pretty Little Liars, Shark Tank

7.  Favorite books?
I read mostly political books because politics is a big passion of mine.

8.  If you weren't a lacrosse player, what would be your favorite hobby/pass time?
My favorite hobby besides lacrosse is Martial Arts. I have traine in Karate and Tae Kwon Do since I was three years old, but had to put it on hold because of lacrosse. I hope to start training and eventually compete in Mixed Martial Arts sometime in the near future.
